Linklaters made a raft of appointments last week, leading to the appointment of a new global head of financial markets and two new practices being launched in Amsterdam.
The magic circle firm appointed partner Michael Kent to global head of the financial markets group, with the current chief Paul Nelson stepping down at the start of November.
Kent has been a partner at the firm since 1999 and has more than 15 years' experience in financial markets regulation.
Nelson, who founded the group 15 years ago and who has led it ever since, will continue in full-time practice and will also become the first professor of regulation and compliance at the International Capital Markets Association Centre at the University of Reading
In Amsterdam Linklaters launched two new Dutch practices, tax and employment, with the hire of Stibbe's head of tax Stef van Weeghel and Simmons & Simmons employment partner Eunice Bruyninckx.
With more than 20 years' tax experience in the Netherlands, Van Weeghel joins Linklaters' partnership, while Bruyninckx, who leaves Simmons after four years, joins as counsel. Martijn Koopal, head of Linklaters' Amsterdam office, said: "The appointments are the next step in the ongoing development of our Amsterdam office and significantly enhance our client offering."
News of the appointments came as Linklaters scooped a banking star from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer with the hire of partner Brian Gray (The Lawyer, 22 June).
